How to Apostille a document in Australia?

If you have an original document issued by an Australian Government department (e.g. Australian birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate, citizenship certificate etc) and you will be sending the original overseas, then the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in Australia can Apostille the document.

How Swift Apostille can help?

Swift Apostille can have your document Apostilled by DFAT. This is the fastest service in Australia as our Notary Public attends the Sydney DFAT passport office daily for our clients.

Documents that DFAT can Apostille

Original documents that DFAT can Apostille are:

  • Australian Citizenship Certificate
  • Australian Education Institution Document
  • Australian Government Commercial Document (e.g. ASIC, ATO or TGA document)
  • Australian Birth Certificate
  • Australian Death Certificate
  • Australian Divorce Certificate
  • Certificate of Residency issued by the Australian Tax Office (ATO)
  • Document already notarised by an Australian Notary Public
  • Fingerprint report issued by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission
  • Marriage Certificate (excluding ceremonial certificate)
  • National Police Certificate issued by the Australian Federal Police (AFP)
  • Single Status or Record of No Result Certificate
  • Translated documents by an official National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) provided certain requirements are met.

When is a Notary Public required?

If you intend to only send a copy of a document issued by an Australian Government department (e.g. Passport, Australian Drivers Licence etc) overseas or a document not issued by an Australian Government department, then you must have the document notarised by a Notary Public before DFAT will Apostille the document.

We can Notarise documents for you. Please visit Swift Notary for notarisation of your document.
